Minutes of the Cooper Band Boosters
March 9, 2010
• Meeting was called to order by Booster President Joe Helm at 7:10pm.
• Treasurer report was given by Karen Ewing
• Minutes were read by Terry McGaha
The minutes were corrected: nominations for Vice President should be: Terri and Sam Corbett
• both were then approved and seconded
Business:
• still have $4,429.00 to be collected on the ski trip- those that still owe have to the end of the school year to finish paying.
• Joe Helm brought up a new position called ”Past President” for the boosters to consider. It is a mentoring position. The “Past President” will mentor the upcoming President for a year. In this position, the “past president” is not involved 100 % but is there to help answer any questions the new President may have- to help with the transition for the new President. This position was voted on by the Band Boosters. All voted yes. So this will be added to the Band Boosters’ Bi-laws.
• The Band Boosters voted on the new officers for the 2010-2011 school year.
They are:
President: John Reinoehl
Vice Presidents: Terri and Sam Corbett
Treasurer: Karen Ewing
Recording Secretary: Terry and Scott McGaha
Corresponding Secretary: Michele James
Parliamentarain: Carrie Hendrix
Freshman Rep.-Laura Gutsche
Sophomore Rep.-Janet Bailey and Traci Appleton
Junior Rep.-Alvino & Vera Sanchez and Kathy Springfield
Senior Rep.-Tina Fitts and Jennifer Kohanowski
Past President: Joe and Carrie Helm
The new officers will take office June 1, 2010.
• Band banquet is May 22nd
• UIL is April 21st at Cooper
• Need pictures and video for the band video- ASAP
• Mr. Johnson gave his report:
Solo/Ensemble went well. We had 11 solos receive a division 1 with 7 solos going on to state. 10 ensembles received a division 1 with all 11 going to state. So we have 37 students going to state solo/ ensemble in May.
There will be a Pre-Pre UIL concert on Thursday at 6:30pm. They need to wear “concert black”.
Winterguard will perform this weekend and compete later.
Mr. Johnson will be sending letters home to all current band kids and upcoming freshman. This is a “letter of intent” as to yes or no in band this fall. This is to help get ready for the show this fall. He would like to have 250 kids in band if possible this fall.
• Joe and Carrie plan to have a party for the seniors. Will probably grill hamburgers at the park.
• Meeting adjourned at 7:40pm.
May 11, 2010
• Meeting called to order at 7:04pm by President Joe Helm
• Minutes read by Sec. Terry McGaha
• Treasurer report read by Karen Ewing
• both approved
Business:
• $8549 cash in bank still have ski trip money out ($4514) for about 15 students. Paper statements will be sent to all who still owe money for whatever reason (ski trip, value cards, band registration, etc….). The boosters have lost money on fund raisers because money is not being turned in. Boosters will do the following to help with this:
1. in addition to e-mails being sent, will also send paper statements
2. Joe said he would send an e-mail
3. Mr. Johnson said grades and diplomas could be held
4. fund-raisers will need the money upfront when things are sold/purchased
5. value cards- may give each student who wants one -one card or require that the money be paid before hand
6. will only order for those who have paid up front
• boosters are still in need of more recipes (at least 200 more) , there is a link on the band web-site
• band registration- still outstanding money from last fall- will try to do things differently this year at registration- like getting people to pay at least half and then have a cut-off date for the balance
• will have plaque sales early and pay for them then
• New York letter was sent out on May 11th. The cost will be $1500 and the first payment of $100 (non-refundable) will be due May 20th. Joe will talk to Mr. Johnson about extending this for the up-coming freshman and move-ins/transfers).
• May 22nd- band banquet at 6pm- cost is $25 a ticket due May 14th. Set up after 3pm
• Fireworks stand- one stand in the middle of June through July 4th. This is for the whole band and color guard.
• Flamingo project- they are in Carrie’s garage and will be done this fall

• March-a-thon will be on May 26th- going from business to business, and will go to the feeder schools for Cooper -a total of 8 places
